When I first got Klepto, I wasn't so sure I?d like it (because of the shoplifting) - but I found myself hooked on reading it. I found the dialogue very realistic and portrayed teen lifestyles wonderfully. When the girls are caught on one of their cheaper flings, Julie P.'s conscious finally catches up to her and tries to quit the ?getting? all together with the help of her family's counselor and the growing fear of being caught again. (the narrator) is intrigued by Julie B.'s ways and idolizes her friend but at the same time feels guilty over the enormous amounts of shoplifting they do. The teens run the streets of New York getting a rush out of shoplifting and find new and creative ways to do so. When Julie Prodsky becomes best friends with the ultra-popular and ever-so-spunky Julie Braverman, the teens form a relationship based on ?Getting?- or shoplifting. ?Isn't that what I am? Isn't that what a kleptomaniac is? Someone who steals uncontrollably and can't stop? -Julie P. Without stealing, can this friendship survive? She wants to stop shoplifting, but Julie B.
